Henna brows are rapidly becoming the go-to choice for those seeking a natural, long-lasting way to keep their eyebrows looking full and fleek. This innovative technique provides a fuller, more defined look without the long-term commitment of permanent makeup, and it is a great way to try out a shape before getting permanent makeup. Whether you’re wondering, how long do henna brows last or why you would want to get henna brows over tinting, this article will tell you everything you need to know about henna brows.

What Are Henna Brows?

Henna brows involve applying a plant-based dye from the henna plant to tint the eyebrows. This method colors the hair and stains the skin underneath, creating a shadow effect that gives the appearance of depth and fullness. Depending on skin type and care practices, henna lasts up to six weeks on hair and about one week on the skin.

Brow Henna vs. Regular Dye: Key Differences

Henna brows and regular dye serve similar purposes but differ in results and application. Regular dye only colors brow hairs and relies on chemical components like ammonia. Henna is a natural option that tints the hair and lightly stains the skin, giving your brows a fuller look. Plus, with mixable shades, your artist can create the perfect match for your unique style!

Why Choose Henna Brows?

Natural Ingredients

Henna is like Mother Nature’s love letter to your brows—made from natural, vegan-friendly ingredients, it’s perfect for anyone with sensitive skin or those who want to avoid slathering chemicals on their face.

Long-lasting Results

You know what’s annoying? Constant touch-ups. Whether at the beach, under studio lights, or in the hot tub, no one wants their brow makeup melting off. Henna brows are like the gift that keeps giving, which means you can spend less time worrying about your brows and more time being fabulous. To answer the question how long do henna brows last, the stain on the skin lasts about one week and the hair tint lasts up to six weeks!

Customizable Shades

Your brows, your rules. Brow henna comes in various mixable shades to perfectly complement your vibe. Whether you’re rocking a natural look or going for bold and striking, we’ve got your brows, baby!

The Application Process

  1. Consultation  First, you’ll meet with your artist for a chat. Together, you’ll determine the perfect shape and color to make your brows pop and bring out your natural beauty—like the masterpiece you are.
  2. Before Photos & Preparation — Next, your artist will give your brows a little spa day. They’ll cleanse the area to remove any oils or leftover makeup, as henna works best when the surface is squeaky clean.
  3. Mapping and Excess Hair Cleanup It's time for some art class magic. At ArbeloLA we use a Fleek light to project light onto your face while you are looking in a mirror so we efficiently map out the perfect shape based on your features and what makes you go, “Yes, that’s me!” Once you give the thumbs-up, your artist will mark the brow outline, then clean up the stray hairs outside the approved area.
  4. Application Your artist will carefully apply the henna formula with a precision brush like Bob Ross painting a happy little eyebrow.
  5. Processing Time Sit back, relax, and maybe scroll Instagram while the henna sits. It will work its magic in 15-20 minutes, tinting your brows and skin for a fuller, defined look.
  6. Final Touches & After Photos The grand reveal! Excess henna gets wiped away, leaving you with brows that could make anyone stop mid-scroll.

Interested in Permanent Makeup? We’ll Do an In-Person Consultation

If you’re interested in getting permanent makeup eyebrows, we will also do a consultation during your appointment. This includes understanding your lifestyle and skin in the eyebrow area and then sharing information about which types of permanent makeup would best suit you. It could include looking at photos of different eyebrow styles on our Pinterest boards. And if you are feeling excited about getting permanent makeup brows, we can also do a skin patch test for the tattoo ink to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction. (We haven’t seen one yet, but we do like to test for allergies when possible.)

How Long Does the Session Take for Henna Brows and If I Do a Perma Brow Consultation?

This is a complex question to answer because of multiple factors.

The shortest appointment would be for a person who knows exactly what they want. They’ve already been getting their eyebrows groomed and have a pretty defined shape with hair throughout, and we don’t talk much. In this case, the mapping could probably be done in 15 minutes, the henna applied and sitting in 20 minutes, and we could have you out the door in about 45 minutes.

The most extended appointment would be for a person who is chatty (which we generally love), has never had their eyebrows groomed, doesn’t know what they want, and wants permanent makeup eyebrows but doesn’t know anything about it. Then, during the appointment, they decide to get perma brows, so we do a patch test. In this scenario, the appointment could last two hours.

At ArbeloLA, Ami Mariscal uses the Fleek light system to help you identify the perfect eyebrow shape for you, and that makes it efficient even for people who’ve never had their eyebrows groomed. However, we do take our time mapping since often our clients are going to do permanent makeup and are using henna brows as a trial run for the shape. However long the appointment takes, the price remains the same. Our goal is your comfort and beautiful brows!

Before and After: The Results

The transformation achieved with henna brows can be subtle or dramatic, depending on your preferences. Before-and-after photos showcase the beautiful difference this treatment can make. It adds depth and structure to the face, brightens your eyes, and makes you feel more confident—especially if you wear eyebrow makeup and avoid excess sweating or going around water so it won’t melt off!

Safety Considerations & Professional Grade Henna

Henna is generally safe for most people, but it’s always important to be mindful of potential sensitivities. Some henna products can cause reactions in a small number of individuals. At ArbeloLA, we proudly use Supercilium Brow Henna, a high-quality, professional-grade product made from the finest Indian henna and selected pigments. Supercilium offers 88% natural, vegan henna eyebrow tint, providing a safe and effective solution for beautifully defined brows in a broad range of shades to suit every preference.

The composition is based on the latest innovations in hair coloring and is approved by European regulations, ensuring a safe alternative to regular brow tinting. We’ve never seen anyone experience an adverse reaction to Supercilium products. However, if you have skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis in the eyebrow area, it’s best to wait until your skin has fully healed before getting henna brows. This helps prevent irritation and ensures the best possible results.

For expectant mothers and those who are breatfeeding, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional before using henna. While research on henna use during pregnancy and breast feeding is limited, your safety and satisfaction are always our top priorities!

Patch Test Guide for Henna Brow Treatments

Before starting your henna brow journey, we are happy to send you a patch test kit to identify any potential allergic reactions to the henna dye. Apply a small amount of the henna mixture behind the ear or on the inner elbow and wait 24-48 hours. If no irritation occurs, you can proceed with confidence.

Conclusion

Henna brows are an excellent choice for enhancing natural beauty with a safe, long-lasting, and customizable option. Whether trying a new shape before committing to permanent makeup or looking for a low-maintenance way to keep your brows on fleek, henna brows are the perfect choice.
